Multiple Ocala fire crews battle fast-moving flames in semi-truck cab

A fire destroyed the cab of a semi-truck in Ocala on Sunday night.

This semi-truck cab was declared a total loss after it was destroyed by flames on Sunday night.

Crews from Ocala Fire Rescue responded to the 5000 block of SW 6th Place, where a commercial vehicle fire was reported at 7:21 p.m. While en route to the blaze, firefighters reported seeing a large column of black smoke rising above the scene, a report states.

Upon arrival, crews found a single semi-truck cab fully involved in fire, with flames spreading to the grass around it and threatening a nearby truck. Using a pre-connected hose, firefighters attacked the fast-moving blaze from the passenger side of the semi-truck in order to protect the second vehicle from radiant heat. Approximately 2,000 gallons of water were needed to extinguish the fire, the report says.

Crews responding to the fire included those from Tower 1, Engine 3, Engine 4 and Rescue 4, as well as Battalion Chief 22 and a safety officer. No injuries were reported and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
