Driver pursued by FHP ditches vehicle at Ocala Chick-fil-A, flees on foot

A driver being pursued by the Florida Highway Patrol was apprehended after ditching his vehicle at an Ocala Chick-fil-A and fleeing on foot.

Christopher Eugene Smith, 32, of Citrus Springs, who has been classified as a habitual traffic offender, had been driving a 2004 Nissan Frontier without headlights and at a high rate of speed at 1:05 a.m. Tuesday when he was spotted by a FHP trooper.

The trooper began pursuing Smith who ditched his vehicle at Chick-fil-A at 3445 SW College Road. Smith was apprehended at a nearby Home Depot with the help of the Ocala Police Department.

A check of his driver’s license revealed that he was a habitual offender and had 14 active suspensions of his driver license.

He was booked at the Marion County Jail.
