An Ocala woman was arrested Wednesday evening after a brawl with her cousin over comments on Facebook.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded to 942 NW 59th Ave. in reference to a physical disturbance, according to an MCSO arrest affidavit. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with 41-year-old Avis V. Thompson, who advised she had heard from other subjects, and has seen posts on Facebook, where the victim,  was allegedly making rude comments about Thompson’s dead mother, the affidavit stated. Thompson advised she and the victim are cousins, though they live in separate locations, and that she went to the incident location to confront the victim about the comments. A verbal altercation began, then Thompson allegedly threw her cousin to the ground. Thompson returned to her residence, changed her clothing and then return to the incident location where another verbal altercation began.

The deputy made contact with the victim, who advised while visiting his children at the incident location, Thompson arrived and began to have a verbal altercation with him, as well as the mother of his child, according to the report. The victim advised that Thompson was mad about supposed comments he made in reference to her deceased mother, but stated he never made the comments. The victim advised during the verbal altercation, the mother of his child attempted to intervene and stop Thompson from arguing, in which Thompson struck her in the head. Thompson’s cousin advised he then stepped in to stop Thompson, but Thompson then struck him in the head as well. The victim denied placing his hands on his cousin.

The deputy made contact with the mother of the victim’s child who provided the same statement, and neither victim had any visible marks or injuries. An eyewitness, who resides at the incident location, advised the deputy that the two victims were at her residence visiting when Thompson arrived and began the altercation. The eyewitness advised she observed Thompson strike the mother of the victim’s child and then strike the victim when he attempted to intervene.

Thompson was placed under arrest on two counts of simple battery and was transported to Marion County Jail. Bond was set at $2,000.
