Pre-school area vandalized at elementary school in Ocala

A pre-school area was reportedly vandalized at an elementary school in Ocala.

Marion County sheriff’s deputies on Tuesday responded to Sunrise Elementary School located at 375 Marion Oaks Course in reference to criminal mischief on the school property, according to an incident report. Upon arrival, deputies met with an employee and the principal of the school. The employee told deputies that between 8 p.m. on Monday and 7 a.m. on Tuesday, unknown suspects came onto the school property and vandalized the pre-K area. Picnic benches had been flipped over and a planter made of wood and plastic was broken. The vandals damaged a water table and flipped over kitchen plastic sets. The benches did not break, but the damage was estimated at $100 and $60 respectively. In the center court yard area, two ceramic angels were broken, a concrete bench was flipped over and plastic trash cans were flipped over around the campus. The ceramic angels were valued at $120.

In the back of the cafeteria, a fluorescent light fixture valued at $75 was damaged. Outside of the pre-K classroom, line strings that were used to hang and display the children’s artwork had been cut, causing some of the artwork to fall off. Milk crates outside of the cafeteria had been flipped over, according to the report.
