Customer returns fire at man wearing clown mask during attack near Ocala grocery store

A 21-year-old has been arrested after a shooting Wednesday morning near an Ocala grocery store.

Kourtland Dukes was  arrested and charged following a shooting that occurred at about 11 a.m. near Long’s Grocery, 803 NE Fourth Street. 

According to witness statements, Dukes walked to the west side of Long’s Grocery and began shooting in the area of a car wash located on the side of the building, wounding a man in the leg, according to the Ocala Police Department.

One of the customers returned fire and another gave chase shooting at the man as he ran from the scene.

Dukes was shot in the lower portion of his leg as well as the heel of his left foot. Witnesses described the shooter’s attire as a black Adidas sweat suit and a clown mask covering the upper portion of his face.

A detective stopped Dukes after he was spotted limping and then entering a hole in the fence of Parkside Garden Apartments. A gun and the clown mask were recovered nearby.

Dukes has been convicted previously of possession of a firearm by a delinquent, a felony in the state of Florida. Ferguson was treated for his injuries and then transported to the Marion County Jail.
