Michael Balbes

Michael Balbes

Michael Balbes, 80, a warmhearted, considerate, intelligent and loving man departed this mortal coil on May 18, 2018.
He is mourned by his wife, Carol; daughters, Melissa and Jennifer; brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Deborah; nephew, David; and many dear friends of many years.
Michael, born during WWII in London, was one of the founding directors of Microdyne Corporation which relocated to Ocala in 1979 from Rockville, Maryland. His contributions in the electronic engineering world and in telemetry was most respected. He retired early in order to travel and see other countries and cultures of the world. After 10 years, Carol retired and joined him in his travels. Michael’s inquisitiveness took forms other than travel, such as what made things work, why we think the way we do, what was the real meaning of a serious play or book and other life questions, and how other cultures function in the world. All this was done in good humor and interest in the other person, kindness and respect for everyone.
Michael will long be remembered, loved and missed beyond solace.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael’s memory can be made to the Simon Wiesenthal Center, 1399 South Roxbury Drive, Los Angeles, California 90035. A service for Michael will be held on Monday, May 21, 2018, 2:00 PM at Temple B’Nai Darom Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Almond Road in Ocala, Florida.
