Emerald Shores Elementary student finds two bullets on playground

A student found two bullets on the playground of Emerald Shores Elementary School in Ocala on Wednesday.

According to a Marion County Sheriff’s Office report, the student was digging in the ground during a recess period while looking for a pencil when he uncovered two 9mm bullets. The student immediately took them to his teacher, who turned them over to the school’s dean of students.

Several other students confirmed that their classmate found the bullets during the recess period. The school’s resource officer searched the student’s backpack and didn’t find any other ammunition or weapons. And he spoke with the student’s mother, who said that there are no firearms in her home and her son has no access to any weapons.

The deputy also searched the area on the southwest portion of the school’s campus, located at 404 Emerald Rd., where the bullets were found, but didn’t find any others. He notified the sheriff’s office’s Youth and Community Services Bureau and logged the bullets into evidence so they could be destroyed.
