Dunnellon High School mom seeks help after locker room shoe theft leads to threats

The mother of a Dunnellon High School student contacted the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for help earlier this week after her son received threats at school.

The woman told a deputy that she had filed a report with the school, located at 10055 SW 180th Avenue Rd. in Dunnellon, two weeks ago after a pair of her son’s shoes were stolen from the locker room after a football game. The woman said she was told the school would investigate the incident.

But she said her son started hearing rumors that the student who took his shoes wanted him to remain quiet because he has a college scholarship and is afraid of losing it. The woman added that her son was told the other student “wanted to fight him because he would not stop talking about his shoes being missing,” a sheriff’s office report states.

The woman said her son had never heard anything directly from the student believed to have stolen the shoes and she said she doesn’t know anything about him except that he is a senior. But she told the deputy she wanted the rumors documented “in case something actually happened at the school,” the report says.

The deputy noted in the report that he made contact with the school resource officer at Dunnellon High School to make him aware of the situation. The resource officer said he planned to meet with the student to gather more information, the report says.
