A Belleview pair escaped serious injury in a fiery crash Tuesday afternoon that claimed the life of a motorist in Hillsborough County.
Jennifer Louise Boynton, 40, of Belleview, had been at the wheel of a 2004 Toyota Sequioa at 4:08 p.m. which had been traveling onto a northbound entrance ramp to Interstate 75 when she lost control of the vehicle, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. Her car entered into the path of a tractor-trailer truck hauling tomatoes and in the collision, the tractor portion of the trailer fell over the overpass and crashed onto a car below, killing the driver. The flames “burned extensively” for 20 minutes, the report said. The trailer also fell to the roadway below, covering the lanes with crates of tomatoes.
The man who died in the sedan below has not been identified pending the notification of next of kin.
The truck driver, 63-year-old Angel Aldana Catalan of Port St. Lucie, suffered minor injuries.
Boynton suffered minor injuries and was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital. A passenger in her vehicle, 50-year-old Scott Elling of Belleview, was also transported to St. Joseph’s the report indicated.
A portion of I-75 was shutdown after the crash. All lanes of traffic re-opened at 8:45 p.m.
