Belleview pair escapes serious injury in fiery crash that claimed life of fellow motorist

A Belleview pair escaped serious injury in a fiery crash Tuesday afternoon that claimed the life of a motorist in Hillsborough County.

Jennifer Louise Boynton, 40, of Belleview, had been at the wheel of a 2004 Toyota Sequioa at 4:08 p.m. which had been traveling onto a northbound entrance ramp to Interstate 75 when she lost control of the vehicle, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. Her car entered into the path of a tractor-trailer truck hauling tomatoes and in the collision, the tractor portion of the trailer fell over the overpass and crashed onto a car below, killing the driver. The flames “burned extensively” for 20 minutes, the report said. The trailer also fell to the roadway below, covering the lanes with crates of tomatoes.

A fire broke after a tractor-trailer fell from an overpass on Interstate 75 and landed on a vehicle below.

The man who died in the sedan below has not been identified pending the notification of next of kin.

The truck driver, 63-year-old Angel Aldana Catalan of Port St. Lucie, suffered minor injuries.

Boynton suffered minor injuries and was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital. A passenger in her vehicle, 50-year-old Scott Elling of Belleview, was also transported to St. Joseph’s the report indicated.


Crates of tomatoes covered the roadway after the crash.

A portion of I-75 was shutdown after the crash. All lanes of traffic re-opened at 8:45 p.m.
