Former VP Joe Biden joining Nelson on campaign trail in Florida

Former Vice President Joe Biden will criss-cross Florida two days this week in support of U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson’s re-election, including stops in Tampa, Jacksonville, Tallahassee and Orlando.

The tour comes as early voting begins in many counties across Florida. In those counties, people are eligible to vote in person before the Nov. 6 election.

Biden and Nelson will be joined by a string of Democratic candidates and other elected officials, including Democratic gubernatorial nominee Andrew Gillum, during the two-day tour on Monday and Tuesday.

“Joe’s one of my best friends,” Nelson said. “Like me, Joe has treated public office as a public trust.  And he knows what it means to be in public service for the people – and not in it for yourself.”

Biden is one in a series of highly regarded individuals coming to the state in the next two weeks to express their support of Nelson. Among them is rising national political figure U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris of California.

Another is former NASA chief Charles F. Bolden, a retired Marine Major General who piloted Grumman A-6 Intruders during the Vietnam War and flew on four space shuttle missions – two as commander. Bolden was Nelson’s commander on the space shuttle in 1986.
