Bloody battle over cash for food lands Summerfield man behind bars

Louis Earl Irmo

A Summerfield man was arrested last week following a violent altercation over money for food.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was called to a home on SE 160th Lane Thursday night, where a man said that 34-year-old Louis Earl Irmo had pushed him and caused him to fall. The 75-year-old man said he was arguing with Irmo after refusing to give him money for food and instead offering to take him out for a meal. He said the altercation turned physical when Irmo pushed him out of his bedroom with both hands, causing him to fall into the hallway and then into the door frame of a bathroom, a sheriff’s office report states.

The man had two open cuts on his right hand and an abrasion on his elbow as a result of the fall, the report says, adding that the deputy also saw blood on the door frame of the bathroom.

The man told the deputy that he tried to “remove himself” from Irmo after falling but he “continued to follow him around and yell at him.”

The deputy spoke with Irmo over the phone. He said he was at his mother’s house but refused to provide an address. And at one point, he “spontaneously uttered” that the verbal altercation took place because the man was refusing to feed him, the report says, adding that Irmo said things turned physical when he “redirected” the man out of his bedroom.

Irmo agreed to return to the Summerfield home but when he arrived, he refused to answer questions. He was taken into custody and on the way to the Marion County Jail, he said that he “just redirected” the man.

Irmo was charged with battery on a person 65 or older. He was released Saturday morning on $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in a Marion County courtroom on Nov. 27 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charge.
