An Ocala man was arrested after a woman with a lump on her head called a Marion County sheriff’s deputy for help early Sunday morning.
When the deputy arrived at a home on SE Tuscawilla Ave. where the woman had gone to take refuge with her sister, he was told that a violent altercation had broken out with 21-year-old Erik David McKay. The woman said the incident happened at a home on SW 42nd Street when McKay became upset over an issue with phones. The woman claimed that McKay “grabbed her by the hair and arm and pushed her head down against the floor repeatedly,” a sheriff’s office report states.
The woman also claimed that she had a lump on the back of her head where McKay allegedly kept pushing her into the floor. And she told the deputy it was not the first time he had been “physically abusive” toward her, the report says.
McKay met the deputy at the Ocala Police Department on S Pine Avenue and admitted that he and the woman had been in a verbal and physical altercation. McKay “did not want elaborate” on the incident but said “he knew what he did was wrong,” the report says.
McKay was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with domestic battery. He was released early Monday morning on $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in a Marion County courtroom on Jan. 11 at 1:30 p.m. to answer to the charge.
