John Joseph Hayes Jr.

John Joseph Hayes Jr.

John Joseph Hayes Jr., or Jack to folks who knew him, 77, passed away on November 29, 2018. Jack was born in Camden NJ to John Sr. & Vera Hayes.

Jack graduated from Audubon High School in 1959; and then later served in the US Air Force as a radar technician for 5 years. In 1962 he married Judith Hunter, and this union gave him two daughters, Cheri (Terry) Davidson and Colleen (Gary) McCray; one son, Ronald Scott Hayes; as well as five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

In 1975 Jack moved to Ocala, where he lived for much of the rest of his life. Jack restored homes in the Ocala Historic District for more than 20 years.

In 1987 Jack married Susan Tompkins Renderer. He was proud to be a stepfather to Gene (Janet) Renderer and Jackie Renderer (Doug) Betz, and a grandfather to 3 grandchildren. Jack went on to graduate from the University of South Florida in 1991, and held a teaching certificate in Florida which he used to teach vocation small engine repair at the Department of Corrections. Jack ultimately retired from the Department of Corrections in 1993.

Jack was an antiques nut. He loved old Cars, F-100 trucks, Panel trucks (especially those from 54-59), and old homes. He was a grease monkey and believed in making things work.

As he matured he became a more loving and caring father. He was involved in all of his family, loving each child for the individual they were as each were important to him.

Jack will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Hospice of Marion County in John’s memory
