The Florida Highway Patrol is asking for help in locating a vehicle that was involved in a hit-and-run crash Saturday night on State Road 40 that left a 22-year-old woman dead.
Gypsy Star McEntire was riding her scooter on SR 40 near NW 49th Ave. at about 6:30 p.m. when she was hit by a silver Chrysler 300. The driver of the car, believed to be between the model years of 2005 to 2010, then fled the scene, a Florida Highway Patrol report states.
McEntire, who was wearing a helmet, was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center, where she died at about 9 p.m. A GoFundMe account that can be accessed HERE has been set up by her family to help with burial expenses.
Troopers say the four-door Chrysler 300, which was last seen traveling north on NW 53rd Court, will have significant front-end damage (missing front chrome grill and fog lamps) as a result of the collision.
Anyone with information is asked to call the FHP at 1-800-387-1290 or Crime Stoppers of Marion County at (352) 369-6880.
