Downtown Ocala ceremony with pipe and drum corps to honor fallen firefighters

Ocala Fire Rescue Chief Shane Alexander

Uniformed firefighters from across Florida will honor fallen firefighters with a pipe and drum display at the Ocala Downtown Square on Thursday, Dec. 6.

The event, which was rescheduled October due to inclement weather, is scheduled from 8 to 9:30 p.m. and will include a short parade. Participants will make their way to the Downtown Square, where the following firefighters will be commemorated: Steven Terry, Hernando County Fire Rescue; Jeffery Atkinson, Tallahassee Fire Department; Daryel Richards, Hollywood Fire Rescue; and Michael Camelo Jr., City of Cape Coral Fire Department.

Firefighters, active or retired, are encouraged to join the parade. Participants will meet at the corner of SE 3rd Avenue and Broadway at 7 p.m.

This memorial at the Florida State Fire College in Ocala pays tribute to those firefighters who have lost their lives protecting others.

For more than a decade, men and women from around the state have united in downtown Ocala to commemorate lives lost and delight passersby with a display of one the fire services oldest traditions – pipes and drums,” said Ocala Fire Rescue Chief Shane Alexander. “It is truly an honor to host this significant ceremony in our city.”
