Silver Springs man with hefty criminal record jailed on stabbing charge

James Townsend Strange

A 31-year-old Silver Springs man who is no stranger to local law enforcement is being held in the Marion County Jail on $10,000 bond after being apprehended 10 days after allegedly stabbing another man.

James Townsend Strange, of 4100 N.E. 174th Court, was arrested on Christmas Day at his home and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. It was his 16th arrest dating back to 2005, Marion County Jail records show.

Previous offenses include domestic violence, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery, drug possession, grand theft, criminal mischief, driving with a suspended license, contempt of court and failure to pay child support.

Strange’s latest trip to jail stems from an incident Dec. 15 at a home on Northeast 110th Avenue Road in Fort McCoy, where he reportedly knocked on the door and confronted the victim when he discovered a female witness was there. The victim told sheriff’s deputies that Strange said he was going to kill him and displayed a small pocket knife with a black blade. Strange then started waving the knife around, cutting the victim’s left forearm and hand before running away.

Strange reportedly returned to argue with the female witness before he and an unidentified driver left in a van or SUV. Strange then followed the female and a male witness to a local store before fleeing the area and eluding authorities until his arrest.

Medics said the victim needed sutures for his lacerations but he refused treatment.
Strange is due to appear in Marion County Court on Jan. 29.
