Trevor Lloyd Toomer

Trevor Lloyd Toomer, age 81, of Ocala, Florida passed away on Tuesday January 1, 2019. Trevor was born March 28, 1937 to loving parents Cyril George Toomer & Myrtle Adassa Toomer in St. Catherine, Jamaica, West Indies. Trevor grew up in Kingston, graduating from Kingston Technical High School.

In his early twenties he fell in love with and married Trevlyn Claire Kennedy, and together they celebrated 47 years of marriage until Trevlyn passed away in 2008. In 2009 he fell in love with and married Sherill Grandison and they were together until his passing on New Years Day 2019.

Trevor lived a live with a love of music. He loved to play, listen, and be around music. He had a gift for music and he shared music with the world by creating and building sound systems and playing music. He loved to play dominoes with his many friends and family and coworkers. He was a great friend and a lot of fun to be around. He loved to travel the world, both inside and outside the United States. He had many friends in many places around the world as well, and left a lasting impact on many.

Trevor started working in Jamaica, working on the roads and with asphalt. This was a difficult and hard labor and he did it daily for years to support his family. When he moved to New York City he worked with the New York Transit Department until he retired; working in the motor pool fixing and repairing subway cars, working on electrical connections doing delicate and difficult work.

In the early 2000’s he retired to Florida with Trevlyn and they lived in Ocala until each of their individual passing’s. In their new home they made new friends and celebrated their faith with Gospel Lighthouse Tabernacle with Pr. Dr. Cora M. Downie.

Trevor is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Trevlyn, two sisters Gloria Forbes and Yvonne Toomer; two brothers, Victor Seymour Toomer and Bernard Toomer.
Trevor is survived by his wife Sherill Grandison Toomer; his daughter Judith (Michael) Strachan, his son Howard (Samantha) Toomer, Andre “Shane” Toomer. He is further survived by his grandchildren Renee Strachan, Demarr Strachan, Vanessa Strachan, Dorian Toomer, and Ayden Baptiste; and his great-grandchildren Jaiden Strachan & Saniya Strachan. He is also survived by his sisters Patricia McFarlane, Daphnie Toomer, and Barbara Toomer; his brothers Egbert “Bennie” Toomer, Rupert Toomer, and Leslie Toomer; as well as many other friends and family, including many nieces and nephews.
