Specialized firefighting team rescues man who tumbled into Ocala rock quarry

Marion County Fire Rescue’s Technical Rescue Team was called into action Friday afternoon after a man fell into a rock quarry.

Firefighters arrived on scene in the 10000 block of N U.S. Hwy. 441 in Ocala shortly before 3 p.m., where a 27-year-old man had fallen approximately 15-20 feet from the rock face.

After establishing command of the scene, District Captain 1 requested the assistance of the Technical Rescue Team and additional units. Firefighters then worked their way into the rock quarry to make patient contact. A division commander and safety officer also arrived on scene, assumed command and established a treatment-and-rescue group.

Firefighters and paramedics treated the patient and prepared him for extrication. Crews began the rescue haul at 3:47 p.m. And the patient was declared a trauma alert and then transported to a local hospital.
