Ocala man charged with choking woman while she tried to call 911 for help

Robert Brown

An Ocala man was charged with trying to strangle a woman during a domestic dispute at a home in Salt Springs.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that she and Robert Brown were in an argument Jan. 27 when Brown left the residence. He returned a few minutes later, got behind the victim, put her in a headlock and allegedly started choking her while she was on the phone with 911 before letting her go and walking out the door, a sheriff’s office report states.

The victim said she couldn’t breathe or yell for help while she was being choked. The deputy observed red marks around the victim’s neck and in her chest area, the report says.
Brown, 41, whose residence is listed at 3551 S.W. 147th Ln., was charged with domestic battery by strangulation and taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Friday on $500 cash bond. He’s due to appear in Marion County Court on Feb. 26.
