Ocala man charged with slapping woman who made him come home after drinking

Raul Alfaro

An Ocala man was arrested after he reportedly slapped a woman with the back of his hand for making him come home because he had been drinking.

Marion County sheriff’s deputies encountered Raul Alfaro around midnight Monday as he was walking away from his residence on Southwest 143rd Lane Road. Alfaro, 43, told them nothing happened, and that he was walking to a friend’s house. He was detained and brought to the scene of the incident.

The victim, who needed a translator, told deputies she stopped at a gas station and noticed Alfaro there and asked him to get in the car because he had been drinking. As she drove them home, they began arguing and Alfaro struck her in the face with the back of his left hand. He then got out of the car and started walking, while the victim returned home and called 911, a sheriff’s office report states.

Deputies observed that the victim’s lip was swollen and she had a cut on the inside of her lip that was producing a small amount of blood.

Through a translator, Alfaro said he was at the store when the victim arrived, told him to get in the car and began yelling at him. He said when the car stopped, he got out and began walking away. Alfaro said he would never touch a woman and did not know what had happened to the victim’s lip, the report says.

Alfaro was charged with domestic battery and taken to the Marion County Jail, where he’s being held on $500 bond. He’s scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Feb. 27.
