Ocala man pushing bicycle along U.S. Hwy. 441 struck and killed by vehicle

An Ocala man pushing his bicycle Saturday night along U.S. Hwy. 441 was struck and killed by a vehicle in Marion County.

The 59-year-old Robert Jay Weems had been pushing his bicycle in the southbound lane of U.S. Hwy. 441 at 10:50 p.m. when he was struck by a 2009 Mazda driven by 28-year-old Angel Rivas of Ocala, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.   

Weems was knocked to the median where he died.

Rivas told an FHP investigator he did not see Weems.

Rivas and a passenger, 45-year-old Justin Correa of Ocala, escaped injury in the accident.
