An Ocala woman upset over a personal space violation found herself behind bars Sunday night after a man claimed she slapped him twice.
When a Marion County sheriff’s deputy arrived at 35-year-old Jamie L. Barnett’s residence on SE 57th Avenue, she said she and a man were involved in a verbal altercation when he approached too closely to her. Barnett said she pushed the man twice in the area of his face and neck in self-defense because he was “in her personal space,” a sheriff’s office report states.
The man, who was waiting outside the residence, told the deputy that he and Barnett were having a verbal altercation when she slapped him twice in the area of his neck and face, the report says, noting that the deputy didn’t see any redness or swelling in the areas the victim claimed to be slapped in.
Barnett was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where she was charged with domestic battery. She was released Monday afternoon on $100 bond and is due in Marion County Court on April 9 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charge.
