Marion sheriff warns residents about scam caller seeking money for warrant

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office has been receiving a number of alarming phone calls recently.

Residents are reporting receiving calls from a local phone number from someone identifying themselves as Chief Robert Douglas with the sheriff’s office. The caller then tells the residents he has a warrant for their child’s arrest and they need to send $1,400 in order to clear the warrant.

Sheriff’s officials say it’s important for residents to know that they will never call anyone and ask them to send money to purge a warrant. They also are encouraging anyone who receives one of these calls to hang up immediately. And they suggest talking with friends and neighbors so they don’t fall victim to the scam.
