Ocala man behind bars on domestic battery charge for second time in two months

Lyle Allen Brooks

An Ocala man is in the Marion County Jail after being accused of battering a woman who was ignoring him.

It was the second domestic battery arrest in a little over two months for 50-year-old Lyle Allen Brooks, who lives on Cherry Road. He was charged in a similar incident Dec. 3, 2018, in Marion County and also previously convicted of battery in January 2018 in Sumter County.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that Brooks tried to start a conversation and she ignored him. She said Brooks then hit her in the left side of her ribs, her right arm and her right leg, a sheriff’s office report states.

The deputy took photographs of the raised skin on the victim’s ribs and right leg and she was taken to AdventHealth, where she was diagnosed with strained ribs.

Brooks told the deputy he didn’t do anything wrong and said he wanted to speak to a lawyer. He complained that his head was hurting and he was taken to AdventHealth. He was medically cleared and taken to jail without incident, the report says.

In addition to two counts of domestic battery (second or subsequent offense), Brooks was charged with obstructing justice and possession of not more than 20 grams of marijuana. He’s being held on $4,500 bond and awaits a March 19 date in Marion County Court.
