Ocala man with multiple license suspensions jailed after almost slamming into K-9 deputy

Travis Lenard Weaver

An Ocala man was arrested early Sunday morning after a Marion County sheriff’s K-9 deputy had to take evasive action to avoid being hit by his vehicle.

The deputy reported that a white GMC Yukon driven by 57-year-old Travis Lenard Weaver cut across several lanes of traffic in the 2000 block of SW Hwy. 484 Sunday at 3:03 a.m. and failed to yield the right of way, a sheriff’s office report states.

The K-9 deputy conducted a traffic stop and after making contact with Weaver discovered that he didn’t have a valid driver’s license. A second deputy was then summoned to the scene to take over the investigation, the report says.

A computer check of Weaver’s driving record showed that he was under a probation restriction requiring an interlock device. License records also showed:

  • Nov. 27, 2016: Suspended for six months for driving with a blood alcohol content above the legal limit of .08. He eventually received a permit and then his license.
  • March 1, 2017: Canceled indefinitely.
  • Jan. 26, 2017: Revoked for 10 years due to DUI with property damage/personal injury.
  • August 28, 2018: Suspended indefinitely.
  • March 6, 2017: Suspended.
  • March 31, 2017: Suspended. In addition, Florida law enforcement authorities were ordered to seize the license tag if Weaver was caught driving his own vehicle.

Computer records also showed that Weaver had been convicted three times for driving with a suspended or revoked license. Two of those convictions (May 28, 2008 and Nov. 10, 2009) came in Sumter County, while the third (Sept. 2, 2010) was in Osceola County.

Weaver, who lives at 2664 SW 178th St. in Ocala, was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail. He was charged with driving with a suspended license (third or subsequent offense) and was being held on $10,000 bond.

Weaver, who has been in the Marion County Jail six times since November 2016, is due to appear in court on March 19 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charge.
