Ocklawaha man charged with assaulting pregnant woman for second time

Jacob Clyburn

A 30-year-old Ocklawaha man, who was charged in January with battering a pregnant woman, is back behind bars after allegedly strangling the woman, who is still pregnant, and punching a man who confronted him about it.

Jacob C. Clyburn, who lives on Southeast 176th Court, was arrested Tuesday and charged with domestic battery by strangulation on a pregnant person and simple battery. He’s being held without bond in the Marion County Jail.

The victim, who is approximately eight months pregnant, told Marion County sheriff’s deputies that Clyburn got physical with her during an argument, and when she went to leave the room, he threw her to the floor, sat on top of her, put his hands around her neck and began choking her.

The victim said Clyburn has choked her several times in the past, and that there have been many times when he’s gotten physical with her and law enforcement has not been called. She appeared visibly shaken and said she is afraid of Clyburn. The deputy observed red marks on the victim’s neck that are consistent with her story, as well as marks on the side of her face.

The victim said she was able to free herself from Clyburn and ran outside. She said she then saw Clyburn get physical with another man and strike him in the face. That man reported that when he went to confront Clyburn about battering the pregnant victim, Clyburn hit him in the mouth and side of the face with a closed fist. The deputy noted the male victim’s lip was bleeding and he observed red marks on the side of his face.

An eyewitness reported that he saw Clyburn get on top of the pregnant victim and punch the male victim in the face. Clyburn admitted getting into a scuffle with one victim but denied touching the other. The deputy observed scratch marks on his right arm.

Clyburn was released from jail on Feb. 2 after being arrested Jan. 2 on a charge of aggravated battery of a pregnant woman. He also spent a month in jail after being charged July 15 with domestic battery by strangulation. Clyburn has been arrested a total of 14 times since 2008.
