Ocala man nabbed driving on suspended license for second time in a month

Don Elliott Merchant

An Ocala man will spend the next month in the Marion County Jail after being charged for the second time in a month with driving while his license is suspended.

Don Elliott Merchant, 27, of 1111 NE 32nd Terrace, was stopped for speeding by a Marion County sheriff’s deputy at the corner of Midway and Pine roads. Merchant told the deputy his license was suspended for failing to pay traffic violations and refusing to submit to a breath test. A records check showed four suspensions since 2013, a sheriff’s office report states.

According to jail records, Merchant was incarcerated Feb. 9-18 on charges of trespassing after warning and driving with a suspended license. He has other previous arrests on charges including criminal mischief, resisting without violence, obstructing justice, domestic battery and aggravated battery of a pregnant victim.

Merchant is scheduled to remain in the Marion County Jail until 9 a.m. April 7.
