Crews from Ocala Fire Rescue battled a structure fire that heavily damaged a vacant house early Thursday morning.
When firefighters arrived at the cement-block home with a wooden roof in the 1900 block of SW First Street, they discovered that flames covered 50 percent of the structure.
Crews from Engines No. 1, 3 and 4, Rescue No. 3 and Tower No. 1, as well as Battalion Chief No. 22 and a Safety Officer, battled the blaze, which was extinguished within six minutes of arrival, an Ocala Fire Rescue report states.
Firefighters also conducted a primary and secondary search to ensure that no one was inside the charred structure. And they verified for hot spots and doused the areas where heat could produce rekindling of flames.
No injuries were reported in the blaze. Officers from the Ocala Police Department and firefighters from Marion County Fire Rescue also responded.
