Clash over headlights starts at school bus stop and ends with warning shot

Andrew Michael Jubin

An Ocala man was arrested after firing what he called a “warning shot” into the ground to end a dispute that started at a school bus stop and continued at two separate addresses.

Andrew Michael Jubin, 48, of 2195 SE 105th St., was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill after the incident on Thursday morning. He was released from the Marion County Jail later in the day on $2,000 bond. No court date was set.

Multiple units from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office first responded to the victim’s home on SE 19th Court, and then were then directed to Jubin’s home, where the victim told deputies he had threatened her with a weapon. She said the disturbance started when she and Jubin got into a brief argument at their children’s bus stop, at SE 110th Street and SE 19th Court, over the bright headlights on Jubin’s vehicle. She said she left the bus stop and went home when the children boarded the bus.

The victim reported that a short time later, she heard a horn blowing in front of her house. When she went outside, Jubin was sitting in his car in her driveway. She said another argument ensued and Jubin pointed a gray or black handgun at her, cocked it and said he would end her life, a sheriff’s office report states, adding that the victim said she feared for her life and called 911 as Jubin left.

The victim said she, her sister and her brother went to Jubin’s home and confronted him. She said the argument continued and Jubin discharged the gun into the ground while standing in his driveway. He then went inside his residence.

Jubin told deputies there was an argument at the bus stop, but the victim was the aggressor. He said the victim had almost hit him and his son on multiple occasions, including the day of this incident. Jubin said the argument ended when the children got on the bus, but before he got home, he turned around and went to the victim’s home because he felt the need to resolve things peacefully. He said another argument ensued and he left to go home.

Jubin said when he got to his driveway, he was blocked by a red car he believes was driven by the victim’s sister. He said he was able to get past the car but became afraid when the victim arrived and an unknown man in a van pulled up. He said he discharged his weapon into the ground and advised everyone it was a warning shot, then went inside his house.

Deputies retrieved the silver revolver that Jubin said was fired during the altercation and arrested him.
