Ear-biting Ocala elementary school food handler jailed after nasty altercation

Courtney Lynn Haley-Swift

A food service worker at an Ocala elementary school found herself behind bars earlier this week.

Courtney Lynn Haley-Swift, 28, of Citra, was arrested Tuesday after Marion County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home on SE 24th Street in Ocala. When they arrived, a man told them he had been involved in a confrontation with Haley-Swift, who listed her employer as Fessenden Elementary School on her arrest report.

The man said that Haley-Swift was upset and had attacked him. He claimed she had scraped his left arm with her fingernails and bitten his right ear, a sheriff’s office report states.

The man said he went home and a few hours later Haley-Swift showed up at his house. The man claimed she was “extremely drunk” and said she slammed open his front door, causing the handle to get jammed and put two holes in the wall behind it, the report says.

The man said Haley-Swift then pushed him, punched his mother and left the residence in a vehicle. Deputies noted that the man had three red scratch marks on his left arm and marks on his right ear. They also watched a video taken by an eyewitness that showed Haley-Swift pushing the man in shoulders, the report says.

The man’s mother claimed that Haley-Swift punched her in the lip with a closed fist. She said her lip was swollen and she was in pain. And she said she also saw Haley-Swift pushing her son, the report says, adding that the damage to the door handle and wall was estimated to be about $150.

Haley-Swift was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where she was charged with domestic battery, battery and damage to property/criminal mischief. She was released Thursday on $2,250 bond and is due in court April 17 at 1 p.m. to answer to the charges.

Haley-Swift, who listed her home address as NE 22nd Ct. in Citra, is no stranger to the Marion County legal system. She also was arrested on Dec. 31, 2014 and spent 44 days in the jail after being charged with violating her probation on previous charges of driving under the influence and driving with license suspended.
