Ocala man and juvenile flee from deputies to avoid ‘wasting’ their time

Dawson J. Cherisol

An 18-year-old Ocala man and a 17-year-old juvenile were arrested late Tuesday night after running from a Marion County sheriff’s deputy in an Ocala neighborhood.

The deputy reported seeing two males wearing backpacks near a residence in the 400 block of Marion Oaks Manor shortly before 10 p.m. Both attempted to conceal themselves as he approached a house and as he activated his emergency lights and illuminated the backyard of the residence, the males fled north into a nearby wooded area.

The deputy recognized one of the men as 18-year-old Dawson J. Cherisol but couldn’t identify the juvenile at the time. Multiple deputies responded to the area and set up a perimeter, a sheriff’s office report states.

A short time later, the crew of the sheriff’s helicopter, Air One, spotted the males running through yards in the 400 block of Marion Oaks Drive and cutting across the golf course at Marion Oaks Country Club. Air One’s crew directed deputies to the front of a residence in the 15000 block of SW 43rd Court Rd., where Cherisol and the juvenile were detained, the report says.

After being read his rights, Cherisol said he fled from the deputy because he “did not want to be questioned and waste his time.” The juvenile said he also ran from the deputy because he, too, didn’t want to be questioned, the report says.

Due to the actions of Cherisol and the juvenile in an area that had experienced vehicle burglaries, both were transported to the Marion County Jail and charged with loitering or prowling and resisting arrest without violence. The 17-year-old was given a juvenile referral and Cherisol was released the following night on $1,500 bond. He’s scheduled to appear in a Marion County courtroom on April 17 at 1 p.m. to answer to the charges.
