Marion County firefighter suffers serious injuries during early morning blaze

A Marion County Fire Rescue lieutenant was seriously injured early Saturday morning while battling a structure fire in Ocala.

The lieutenant was injured from falling ceiling debris during overhaul operations following a house fire in the in the 2300 block of SE 6th Street. He was transported to a local trauma hospital in stable condition and was awaiting further evaluation by the medical staff.

MCFR crews were dispatched the fire at 2:13 a.m. A 911 caller reported the blaze in the lanai area of the home and said the flames were making their way inside the structure. The caller also reported that all occupants were out of the residence.
Rescue 18 arrived on scene within three minutes and reported a working fire in the 3,000-square-foot home. Rescue crews made immediate entry to complete the primary search of the structure.

Shady Engine Company 16 arrived on scene, deployed suppression lines and went into the fire. Five additional units and 27 firefighters were deployed to assist in fire suppression. The fire was reported under control at 2:37 a.m. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation by MCFR and the state fire marshal’s office.
