Silver Springs man arrested after nasty spat with neighbor over window-peeping accusation

Derick Neil Hunt

A Silver Springs man was arrested late Tuesday afternoon following a nasty battle with his neighbor over accusations that he was peeping into her windows.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that 49-year-old Derick Neil Hunt started yelling at her when she arrived home. She said she walked over to him to ask what he was talking about, which led to a verbal altercation.

A short time later, Hunt allegedly hit the woman twice in the face. A witness then got involved and the victim had to hold him back from getting physical with Hunt, a sheriff’s office report states.

After the witness confirmed the victim’s account of the incident, the deputy met with Hunt, who admitted initiating the verbal altercation because “he was mad that the victim was spreading rumors about him.” But he denied hitting her in the face, the report says.

Hunt, who lives at 3261 NE 57th Ave., Apt. A, in Silver Springs, was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with battery. He was released early Wednesday morning on $1,000 bond. No court date has yet been set for Hunt to answer to the battery charge.
