Ocala Aldi’s manager calls for help after Man tries to pass phony $100 bill

The manager of an Ocala grocery store called the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for help last week after a man tried to pass a counterfeit $100 bill.

The manager of the Aldi store, located at 7579 SW Hwy. 200, told a deputy that the man tried to make a purchase with the bill and a cashier immediately recognized it as counterfeit. The manager said he took the bill into his office to call law enforcement when the suspect tried to get the bill back. The suspect said he would notify his bank and straighten it out with them. The manager said he was still trying to figure things out when the suspect took off through the front door, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The manager said he tried to follow the suspect and saw him open the door of a dark-colored, four-door vehicle. However, the suspect noticed the manager, shut the door and took off running from the property. The manager said he took down the Florida tag number on the vehicle before it left the scene, according to the report.

The deputy collected the counterfeit $100 bill, which will be turned over to the U.S. Secret Service for further investigation.
