Deputy called into action after possible death threats during school bus tussle

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was called to Fort McCoy Middle School on Monday afternoon after a fight broke out on a school bus and a student reportedly made death threats.

Fort McCoy Middle School, located at 16160 NE Hwy. 315 in Fort McCoy.

When the officer arrived at the school, located at 16160 NE Hwy. 315, the assistant principal told him about the altercation. She said that according to other students on the bus, a juvenile may have made statements threatening to kill other students, a sheriff’s office report states.

The deputy then went to the student’s house and spoke with his mother. She told the deputy that there are no firearms in her home and the only weapon the student has access to is a pocket knife. The student also spoke with the deputy and claimed to not have access to any weapons, the report says.

The deputy reported his findings to a sheriff’s sergeant and it was determined that the school’s resource officer would follow-up with other students who were riding the bus.
