Crews from Marion County Fire Rescue battled a blaze early Sunday afternoon that destroyed a three-car garage at a home in Silver Springs.

Firefighters were dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 7000 block of NE 61st Avenue Rd. shortly after noon. The 911 caller reported that the fire had started in the garage and two people had sustained burns.

Anthony Engine Company #1 was the first unit on scene, arriving at 12:09 p.m. to find the detached three-car garage fully involved in flames. Heavy winds extended the fire into the corner of the 3,000 square-foot residence, forcing the fire crew to quickly deploy two hose lines and fight back the fire from the home.

Additional suppression units from Sparr Station #19, Rolling Greens Station #28 and Shady Station #16 soon arrived to assist in extinguishing the fire. An aggressive attack on the fire kept the blaze from damaging the majority of the home.
