Traffic stop lands Ocala man in jail after K-9 alerts on his dually pickup

Matthew Brent Ryals

An Ocala man found himself behind bars Thursday night after a Marion County sheriff’s K-9 alerted on his vehicle during a traffic stop.

Matthew Brent Ryals, 44, initially had been pulled over for tailgating while traveling north on Interstate 75. The traffic stop took place in the 3600 block of SW Hwy. 200. After the K-9 alerted on his pickup, the deputy searched the vehicle and found one small light blue pill on the floorboard under the driver’s seat that was identified as Oxycodone, the report says.

After Ryals, who lives at 924 SE Sanchez Ave. in Ocala, denied any knowledge of the 15mg pill being in the vehicle, he was taken into custody and charged with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription (Oxycodone). He was released Friday on $2,000 bond and doesn’t yet have a court date, jail records show.
