Marion County Courthouse security guard jailed after bloody battle with another man

A security guard at the Marion County Courthouse was arrested Sunday after a bloody altercation with another man.

Jessie Willard Belton, 27, who works security at the Marion County Courthouse, was jailed early Sunday morning after a bloody altercation broke out at his Ocala home.

Marion County sheriff’s deputies were called to a home on SW 22nd Street on Sunday afternoon and when they arrived, they found two men with bloody noses. Jessie Willard Belton, 27, told deputies he and another man were involved in a verbal altercation that started in the kitchen and eventually moved into the living room and front yard of the residence, a sheriff’s office report states.

Belton admitted that he punched the other man in the face when he opened the front door. He said a shoving match then ensued between the two men, who both were suffering from bloody noses, the report says.

After an eyewitness confirmed the sequence of events, Belton was arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with domestic battery. He was released Sunday at 3:09 p.m. on $500 bond and is due in court on May 1 at 1 p.m. to answer to the charge.
