Woman angered over work schedule charged with battery and damaging vehicle

Toni Gongora

An Ocala woman was arrested Monday after allegedly battering a man and damaging his vehicle during an argument over his work schedule.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that Toni Gongora, 45, of Marion Oaks Manor, started an argument with him because he was going to be working the next day and she wanted him to wait until Wednesday to go find work. He said he was in his vehicle smoking a cigarette when Gongora entered the vehicle through the front passenger door, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said as the argument escalated, Gongora began to shove and strike him, scratching his right middle finger and his back. The victim said he had to push Gongora off him to get her to stop hitting him. The deputy observed the victim’s injuries, according to the report.

The victim said Gongora ripped the door off the glove compartment in his vehicle and the cigarette lighter outlet from under the dashboard. He said Gongora then came to the driver’s side of the vehicle and ripped the glass out of the front mirror. The victim estimated the damage at approximately $300, according to the report.

Gongora at first denied striking the victim and said he had, in fact, shoved her. She said the two were in the vehicle and she had been pushing him and trying to get a cell phone out of his pocket. Gongora admitted to breaking the mirror out of anger but said she didn’t cause the other damage. She said she didn’t intend to be abusive towards the victim and did not mean to hurt him, according to the report.

Gongora was charged with domestic battery and criminal mischief with property damage of between $200 and $1,000 damage. She remains held in the Marion County Jail on $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on May 15.
