Angry Ocala woman accused of biting man who broke up fight

Rachel Joy Gibbs

An Ocala woman was arrested last week after allegedly biting a man who tried to break up a fight between her and another woman.

Rachel Joy Gibbs, 45, of SW 64th Court, was charged Wednesday with domestic battery causing bodily harm and taken to the Marion County Jail, where she was released Thursday on $500 bond. Her next appearance in Marion County Court is set for June 13.

Gibbs told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that she and the woman were arguing about dinner being made when the woman punched her in the head. Gibbs said the victim stepped between them to try and break up the fight. She said the victim was restraining her and not letting go, so she bit him on the shoulder to get him to release her, according to the arrest report.

The victim said he saw Gibbs forcefully push the other woman, and then the woman reacted by throwing a punch that struck Gibbs on the side of the head. The victim said at that point, he stepped in to try and break up the physical contact. He said as he was restraining Gibbs, she bit him on the shoulder multiple times, the report said.

The deputy observed the victim’s shoulder was red in multiple places, showed indentations of teeth/bite marks, and was also bleeding from an open wound that appeared to be a bite mark, according to the report.

The other woman told the deputy she and Gibbs were having an argument when Gibbs began pointing her finger and becoming aggressive. She said Gibbs then pushed her backwards and she responded by punching Gibbs on the side of the head. The woman said the victim stepped between her and Gibbs and she saw Gibbs bite the victim multiple times on the right shoulder, the report said.

While speaking to Gibbs, the deputy smelled an odor of what appeared to be an alcoholic beverage and asked her if she was a diabetic or had been drinking, and Gibbs said no. Gibbs was then taken to the jail without incident.
