A Belleview man was charged with domestic battery Monday after allegedly grabbing a woman after she slammed a door.
The victim, who is deaf, communicated to a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that she and Todd Montgomery Brant, 50, spent the morning drinking at their residence on SE 37th Court. She claimed Brant became upset and grabbed her after she slammed the door to a shed, according to the sheriff’s office report.
The victim indicated she received a small injury to her mouth but was unable to explain how it occurred. The deputy observed a superficial cut and dried blood on the victim’s lips, as well as a red mark on the left side of her neck, the report said.
Brant, who is also deaf, communicated to the deputy he grabbed the victim around the upper body only to keep her from slamming the door again, according to the report.
Brant was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he’s being held on $5,000 bond. He will answer to the domestic battery charge in Marion County Court on June 13.
