Wrong-way Ocala driver charged with DUI in I-75 crash

Tiana Shay Goodwin

A 21-year-old Ocala woman who was driving south on the northbound side of Interstate 75 was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol after a single-vehicle crash early Thursday morning in Reddick.

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper responded to the crash scene, just south of mile marker 365, at around 2 a.m. and observed a white passenger car in a ditch on the east shoulder of the northbound side of the interstate. The lone occupant of the vehicle was Tiana Shay Goodwin, of 3500 Allapatchee Drive, who was sitting in the driver’s seat with the keys still in the ignition, according to the FHP report.

The trooper noted a strong smell of alcohol coming from Goodwin, and that she was having a difficult time remembering what happened. She said she was traveling north when she lost control of the vehicle and went off the roadway, but the crash investigation revealed she had been traveling south on the northbound side of the interstate, the report said.

Goodwin, who told the trooper she had three drinks that day, failed a series of field sobriety exercises and was arrested. She was taken to the Marion County Jail, where a breath test returned two readings of .121. While at the jail, Goodwin stated she had only one drink, and then said she didn’t know how many drinks she had prior to operating her vehicle, according to the report.
