Cell phone apparently stolen from customer’s cart at Wal-Mart

Wal-Mart at 9570 SW State Rd. 200 in Ocala

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the reported theft of a cell phone from a customer at a Wal-Mart store in Ocala.

The victim told a deputy her juvenile daughter was shopping inside the store, located at 9570 SW Hwy. 200, around 10 p.m. Wednesday while she was circling the parking lot waiting. She said her daughter’s cell phone was about to die, so she took the victim’s phone into the store, according to the incident report.

The victim said when her daughter came out of the store, she pulled up to the grocery exit and the groceries were loaded into her vehicle. She said her daughter left the shopping cart next to a yellow pole directly outside the grocery exit and inadvertently left the victim’s phone in the cart, the report said.

About five minutes after leaving the store, the victim and her daughter realized the phone was left behind and they returned to the store, only to find the cart was gone and the phone was missing.

The case remains active. Anyone with information about the phone is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (352) 732-9111.
