Witnesses back victim’s account of nasty domestic spat

Ashley Marie Potapov

An Ocala woman who claimed she was the victim in a domestic altercation ended up being the one charged when two juvenile witnesses corroborated the victim’s claim that he was the one who was battered.

Ashley Marie Potapov, 37, of SW 25th Court, was charged with domestic battery after the incident, which happened Thursday at her residence. Potapov told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy the victim grabbed her by the throat, threw her down and pinned her to the bed. She said she then began punching him to get free, according to the arrest report.

The victim said that while he and Potapov were arguing, she came over and punched him in the jaw and neck. He said he pushed her to the bed and pinned her down so she would stop punching him. The deputy observed the victim’s neck/jaw area was red, the report said.

Two juvenile females were in the bedroom at the time of the altercation. Both said they were sitting on the bed with Potapov when the victim came into the room and the argument began. Both said Potapov went over the victim and started hitting him, and then he pushed her to the bed and pinned her down, according to the report.

Based on the juveniles’ statements matching that of the victim, and all parties being interviewed separately, Potapov was arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail. She was released Friday on her own recognizance and will answer to the domestic battery charge in Marion County Court on June 12.
