Injured driver rescued from overturned vehicle in Ocala crash

Marion County Fire Rescue units scrambled to a rollover crash on Friday afternoon that left a driver pinned in his vehicle.

Crews from Marion County Fire Rescue work to extricate an injured driver who was trapped in a vehicle during a crash on Friday afternoon in Ocala.

The crash, which happened at 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of SW 40th Avenue and W Silver Springs Boulevard in Ocala, was reported by multiple 911 callers. When firefighters arrived on scene five minutes after receiving the call, they found the driver trapped in an overturned SUV.

Marion County Fire Rescue crews were called to a crash in Ocala at the intersection of SW 40th Avenue and W Silver Springs Boulevard at 2:30 p.m. Friday. An injured driver was later transported to a local hospital in serious condition.

Firefighters worked quickly to stabilize the vehicle. Engine 32’s lieutenant established initial command and requested the fire department’s Special Operations Technical Rescue Team, HAZMAT Heavy Rescue 1 and Golden Ocala Engine Company 20. District Captain 4 then arrived on scene and took over command.

After the vehicle was stabilized, a safety officer established the extrication group and directed crews in the rescue. Two teams of firefighters began to take off the roof. And the patient was safely removed from the vehicle at 3 p.m. and transported to a local hospital in serious condition.
