Marion County Fire Rescue units scrambled to a rollover crash on Friday afternoon that left a driver pinned in his vehicle.
The crash, which happened at 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of SW 40th Avenue and W Silver Springs Boulevard in Ocala, was reported by multiple 911 callers. When firefighters arrived on scene five minutes after receiving the call, they found the driver trapped in an overturned SUV.
Firefighters worked quickly to stabilize the vehicle. Engine 32’s lieutenant established initial command and requested the fire department’s Special Operations Technical Rescue Team, HAZMAT Heavy Rescue 1 and Golden Ocala Engine Company 20. District Captain 4 then arrived on scene and took over command.
After the vehicle was stabilized, a safety officer established the extrication group and directed crews in the rescue. Two teams of firefighters began to take off the roof. And the patient was safely removed from the vehicle at 3 p.m. and transported to a local hospital in serious condition.
