Marion and Forestry firefighters battle large-scale blaze in Fort McCoy

Multiple crews from Marion County Fire Rescue, the U.S. Forestry Service and the Florida Forest Service battled a blaze in the Fort McCoy area on Monday afternoon.

A massive fire broke out in the Fort McCoy area on Monday that was later contained by firefighters from several agencies. Three brush trucks, two bulldozers, a helicopter and a fixed-wing aircraft also were called to battle the blaze.

Shortly before 1 p.m., MCFR crews from Salt Springs Station 15, Fort McCoy Station 7 and Sparr Station 19 were dispatched to the area of NE 148th Terrace Road and Northeast 188th Place after receiving reports of a large fire. They evacuated about eight residences that appeared to be in the fire’s path and then protected those homes from the nearby flames, a MCFR report states, adding that all of the structures survived the fire.

Three brush trucks, two bulldozers, a helicopter and a fixed-wing aircraft also were called to battle the blaze, which the Florida Forest Service determined the cause to be incendiary in nature.
