65-year-old Ocala man behind bars after battle erupts between roommates

Roger Dale East

A 65-year-old Ocala man was arrested late Tuesday night after an altercation broke out between three roommates.

Marion County sheriff’s deputies were called to a home in the 500 block of NE 63rd Ct. and when they arrived, a sheriff’s sergeant attempted to diffuse the situation. Suddenly, 65-year-old Roger Dale East charged at one of his roommates and grabbed him. The sergeant them took East to the ground and secured him in handcuffs, a sheriff’s office report states.

East was transported to Marion County early Wednesday morning, where he was charged with battery. He was being held on $500 bond and is due in court on June 12 at 1 p.m. to answer to the charge.

East is no stranger to the Marion County legal system, having been held in the jail four times since December 2009. In that time, he has faced charges of simple domestic battery, trespassing/lodging in the open and open container.
