The Marion County Children’s Alliance (MCCA) will host a community opioid presentation on Monday, June 3, at the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (3300 NW 10th St).
The event will take place in the Jail Administrative Training Room from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. The presentation was created and is presented by North Florida RX and Heroin Task Force and SR AHEC-Suwannee River Area Health Education Center.
Drug overdose deaths are higher than HIV, car crashes or gun violence at their peaks. This presentation will discuss the safe storage and disposal of prescription medications, as well as what an opioid is and the warning signs of opioid misuse.
In addition, the scope of the local opioid problem will be discussed, and techniques on how to recognize and respond to an overdose will be taught, including how to properly administer narcan (naloxone).
There is no cost to attend this event and lunch will be provided by the Marion County Children’s Alliance.
