Fort McCoy man accused of pushing woman and punching man

Russell Hoffman

A Fort McCoy man faces domestic battery charges after he allegedly pushed a woman and punched a man who came to her defense.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy Russell Allen Hoffman, 53, of NE 165th Street, came home intoxicated Wednesday night and started throwing things around the house. She said when she tried to pick up some of the items, he pushed her in the chest, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said Hoffman then punched a male victim who tried to get between her and Hoffman. The male victim said when he tried to stop Hoffman from hitting the female victim a second time, Hoffman punched him in the forehead and threw him against the wall, the report said.

An eyewitness corroborated the male victim’s story and said he had to wrap his arms around Hoffman to prevent further violence. The deputy observed cuts on the victims that were consistent with their accounts of the incident, according to the report.

Hoffman told the deputy he came home and was immediately confronted by the two victims. He said he just wanted to go to bed and didn’t provide any further details on what happened, the report said.

Hoffman, who has a previous charge of domestic battery in 2010, was charged this time with two counts of domestic battery and taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Thursday on $1,000 bond. He’s scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on June 13.
