Known shoplifter flees from Wal-Mart after employee confronts him leaving store

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was called to an Ocala Wal-Mart this past Thursday after a theft occurred in the store earlier this month.

The loss prevention officer at the store, located at 9570 SW Hwy. 200, told the deputy that on May 5 she had observed a known shoplifter walking past the cash registers and exiting the business. She said she approached the man and asked for his receipt but he refused to show it to her, a sheriff’s office report states.

The loss prevention officer said she secured the merchandise, valued at $1,211.27, and the man continued into the parking lot. She said he then got into the passenger side of a vehicle and left the area.

The items the shoplifter attempted to take included three cutting machines, a 150-piece drill set, other tools, paint, a paint mask and an 8-pack of diet soda, the report says.
